Universidad de La Frontera (UFRO) has achieved a significant milestone by entering the top 10 Chilean universities in the QS World University Rankings: Latin America & The Caribbean 2027. UFRO climbed to 52nd place in the region and 40th in South America, highlighting its commitment to public education and research. This advancement is driven by its excellence in scientific productivity, highly qualified faculty, global networks, and publication impact. The university ranks third among Chilean state institutions, reinforcing its international reputation and its mission to advance the quality of public higher education from La Araucanía.
In a new milestone that reflects the excellence of its academic mission, regionally grounded research, and determined commitment to public education, Universidad de La Frontera (UFRO) achieved a notable standing in the prestigious QS World University Rankings: Latin America & The Caribbean 2027 by securing a place within the top ten Chilean universities, according to the results released by global higher education analyst Quacquarelli Symonds.
“Our steady rise in the QS rankings reflects the collective effort of the entire university community—academics, researchers, administrative and professional staff, and students—whose daily work drives advanced human capital development, cutting-edge research, and knowledge transfer with direct regional and national impact,” highlighted Dr. Juan Manuel Fierro Bustos, Rector of Universidad de La Frontera.
In this latest edition—which assessed 517 higher education institutions across 27 countries in the region—UFRO advanced from 53rd place in the previous edition to 52nd across Latin America and the Caribbean. In South America, the institution ranked 40th.
This advancement is significant not only regionally, but also nationally: for the first time in its history, UFRO enters the top 10 universities in Chile, securing 10th place after climbing two positions compared to the 2026 edition (out of 42 evaluated Chilean institutions).
Furthermore, among state universities, UFRO climbed to 3rd place nationally (up from 4th in 2026), trailing only Universidad de Chile and Universidad de Santiago de Chile.

This strong regional positioning is decisively supported by the robustness of its research performance, where the institution earned outstanding scores both nationally and across Latin America:

Top-tier scientific productivity: In the Papers per Faculty indicator, UFRO achieved an outstanding 99.6 points, ranking 3rd in Chile and 7th in Latin America.

Highly qualified faculty: The university scored 92.3 points in Staff with PhD, also placing 3rd in Chile.

Global connectivity and networks: In the International Research Network (IRN) metric, the university recorded 93.1 points, reflecting its active engagement in global scientific partnerships.

Publication quality and impact: With 87.7 points in Citations per Paper (ranking 36th in the region), UFRO earned the highest score among all Chilean universities in comparable ranking bands.
