Located in the Region of the Araucanía, Chile, the Universidad de La Frontera (UFRO) is a state, public institution of higher learning, considered among the best universities in the country based on its remarkable indicators of quality and excellence.

It became an independent institution on March 10, 1981, after the merger of the Temuco campuses of the University of Chile and the State Technical University.The Universidad de La Frontera is a learning community dedicated to the creation of human capital in undergraduate and graduate studies, in the areas of continuing education development, scientific and technological research, the promotion and creation of the arts and cultural development, and the education of citizens able to confront the challenges of their time.

The University offers 48 undergraduate programs, 12 doctoral programs, 27 Master’s programs, and 30 medical specialization programs in the fields of medicine, dentistry, nursing, midwifery, computer science and medical physics.
It has over 10,000 undergraduate students, spread across six Faculties, and more than 700 graduate students.

The university cultivates knowledge, leadership, entrepreneurship and a forward-looking vision on its Campus Andrés Bello and the Medical Campus in Temuco, as well as in other cities of the La Araucanía Region, at its Angol Campus and the Pucón Campus, which offers three technical degree programs. “

MISSION

The University de La Frontera is a public, state-run, non-religious, pluralistic, inclusive, and autonomous institution of higher education located in the region of La Araucanía. It safeguards and highlights cultural heritage, as well as human and sustainable development.

Its mission is to generate, develop, and transmit knowledge across various areas of learning and domains of culture. It recognizes, promotes, and incorporates the worldview of Indigenous peoples—particularly the intercultural relationship with the Mapuche people—fostering respect and equitable development.

With a commitment to excellence and quality, the university is dedicated to the holistic education of individuals with critical and reflective thinking skills, who promote rational dialogue and tolerance. It aims to help shape a citizenry inspired by ethical, democratic, civic, and socially supportive values, contributing to a socially aware and transformative consciousness that is ethically responsible to the needs of the region, the country, and the international community, in pursuit of the common good.

It promotes and contributes to the development of the country and the region of La Araucanía through education, science, technology, innovation, creative work, and community engagement, with a preferential and relevant focus on the region.
