Program Information

A Civil Environmental Engineer, trained at the Universidad de La Frontera, is a professional with the skills to work in the fields of project management and production processes, incorporating an environmental view to contribute to the economic and social development of the country.

The graduate’s hallmark is engineering design with innovation and social responsibility. He/She is trained in basic sciences and specialized in pollution prevention, control and reduction, and the treatment and disposal of different kinds of waste, to design production processes, evaluate the environmental impact of the production of goods and services, implement engineering projects, and apply management tools with a preventive approach for the mitigation of environmental aspects that may cause adverse effects on the environment.

The graduates are socially, ethically and environmentally responsible, critical of the results of their decisions, and respect the rules that govern the society in which they operate. They have the skills to integrate and lead work teams, and to effectively communicate their purposes.

The training allows the graduates to work in businesses or organizations of the public or private sector, or self-employed.

Occupational field

A Civil Environmental Engineer, who graduated from the Universidad de La Frontera, can work in any environmental issues related labor market. The training is primarily oriented to the productive industrial sector, where the graduate will be able to make a significant contribution to the optimization of process efficiency, compliance with the emission and discharge standards, the implementation and control of environmental management systems, or in work teams that devote themselves to the development of new engineering projects. The graduate can work in engineering consultancy firms, input and equipment supply companies, senior management activities in the public or private sector, entities oriented to project evaluation and legal advice, government agencies, health service companies, universities, training institutions, international agencies, etc.

*Students who enrolled in the Civil Engineering Common Plan or any other Civil Engineering Program of UFRO in the admission process 2024 must complete all first-year subjects, without the option of subject recognition or validation, to ensure compliance with the new graduate profiles and updated curricula.
